‘Tenet’ box-office collection Day 1: Christopher Nolan’s film records best opening day collection post-lockdown
‘Tenet’, director Christopher Nolan’s big-budget Hollywood feature film starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Dimple Kapadia, has recorded a good start at the Indian box-office. The espionage-thriller, which released in theatres in the country on Friday, recorded the best collections and response any film has seen since the reopening of theatres in October.
According to reports on BoxofficeIndia.com, the film earned an estimated Rs 1.1 crore to Rs 1.2 crore nett on its opening day. Although lower than the collection a big-ticket film would normally collect, it has still garnered the best response from the audience amidst an ongoing COVID-19 threat.
With business down around 60-70% from pre-covid times, trade experts noted even lower footfalls of up to 90% in regions with other releases thus far.
Although the turnout was not so strong on day 1, it was reported that half of the collections from the first day was acquired through advance bookings. There were many shows which had a turnout of 100 plus people with some IMAX screenings getting to the capacity which is permitted now.
