Priyanka Chopra congratulates Sonu Sood on award

Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently took to social media to congratulate Sonu Sood after he was honoured by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award. Sonu got the award for extending help and support to migrant workers and others during the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to her Twitter handle, Priyanka Chopra wrote, “Congratulations @SonuSood. So well deserved! You continue to do God’s work and it’s so inspiring to see. Thank you for all that you do (sic).”

Sonu was quick to reply to Priyanka’s good wishes and wrote, “Thank u so much for your encouraging words @priyankachopra. You are an inspiration for millions.. and I am one of them. Keep motivating the world because you are our true hero. Loads of love (sic).”

He was presented with the award at a virtual ceremony on September 29. Sonu had earlier said, “This is a rare honour. UN recognition is very special. I have done whatever little I have done, in my own humble way, for my fellow countrymen without any expectations. However, to be recognized and awarded feels good. I fully support the UNDP in its endeavours to achieve the SDGs by 2030. Planet Earth and mankind will greatly benefit from the implementation of these goals.”

Other known names who have been honored by different UN bodies include Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchett, Antonio Banderas, Nicole Kidman and Priyanka.

Even earlier Priyanka had praised Sonu for his selfless efforts in helping out migrants reach their hometowns, rescuing stranded students and creating job opportunities during the lockdown. He recently launched an initiative to provide full scholarships for higher education to students facing financial challenges. Sonu Sood also offered his hotel in Mumbai for medical professionals to stay in and arranged safe shelters for several people in Mumbai before cyclone Nisarga hit Maharashtra coast in July.
