Movie buffs happy to return to big screens
The busy streets of Gandhinagar and surrounding areas dotted with cinema halls sprang to life in filmy circles on Friday with people hooting, whistling and bursting crackers as screening commenced.
The theatres which remained closed due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions finally opened and movie lovers turned up to experience cinema on the big screen after six months.
With the Centre’s Unlock 5.0 guidelines allowing reopening of cinemas halls and multiplexes from October 15, the state government issued a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) regulating public screening of movies.
Initially, single-screen theatres in the city wanted to begin screening from November 1, considering the lack of new big-star releases, but later changed their decision and opened theatres for all new films.
“We are happy that theatres are open and films are being screened. The footfall is way beyond our expectation. We held a meeting on Friday and decided to open all theatres,” said Prakash, manager of Veeresh Theatre on Magadi Road.
