Jumping rope is a truly underestimated exercise—in fact, it’s one of the best full-body workouts you can do. A pair of guys, Dan and Brandon, the aptly named Jump Rope Dudes, have a whole million-subscriber YouTube channel devoted to proselytizing for jumping rope as a legit way to get in shape. For them, it’s clearly worked, and in a new video they explain how they got started—and what it feels like to lose 70 pounds thanks to jumping rope.
The story probably sounds pretty familiar: A former football player who never really paid much attention to his diet while he was in high school, because he was focused on being big and strong. Then he grew up, got a job, and got busy. Despite having qualms about his body—no longer a football player, he didn’t need the extra bulk—he could never find the time to settle into a workout routine that worked.
Jump rope worked for him because he could take it with him anywhere. Traveling for a corporate job made any other routine nearly impossible, but a jump rope, that’s easy. The benefits, as you can imagine, were pretty obvious. He lost 70 pounds, and admits that he did it primarily for looks—he’s got a six pack for the first time. That boosted his confidence, and he feels more fit than he was even at 23, a full decade ago.
