Can a heavy breakfast help you lose weight?
A big breakfast can help burn calories
If you are looking to burn calories, then breakfast is indeed the most important meal of the day. Food has a huge impact on your health and metabolism. What you eat and drink after waking up plays an important role in your cognitive performance and energy levels throughout the day. According to a study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, people who eat a big breakfast burn twice as many calories than those who eat a large dinner. Also, having a high-calorie breakfast can lower hunger pangs and cravings throughout the day. The research tracked DIT, as well as measured overall hunger, blood glucose levels, and craving for sweets. Let us further find out about the findings of the research.
Why eating a big breakfast can burn calories?
This new research from the endocrine society proves that breakfast plays an important part in your overall health. During the study, researchers evaluated 16 men who alternated eating a low-calorie breakfast and a high-calorie dinner and vice versa. While tracking the DIT in the participants (the diet-induced thermogenesis which is a measure of how well your body is metabolizing food), researchers discovered that the DIT was two times higher after breakfast than after dinner. This shows that people’s metabolism works more actively after proper morning breakfast. Also, as eating a high-calorie breakfast is linked to lower hunger pangs and cravings, it was found that compared to a richer breakfast, a low-calorie breakfast is more likely to cause excess snacking throughout the day. Also, those who eat a smaller breakfast tend to eat larger meals at dinner.
