7 romantic movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video
Love’s a warm, funny feeling that is not bound by one correct definition or depiction of events. You can be in love with someone for years, and they may never love you back. You can both love each other, but it’s platonic! You may just meet them at the right time and everything goes great for the rest of your lives, or vice versa. The possibilities are endless, aren’t they? But to narrow it down a little, here, we’ve curated a list of seven movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video that depict what love looks like beyond the Bollywood cliches and big gestures we are so used to seeing on the big screen.
1. THE BIG SICK – AMAZON PRIME VIDEO
The Big Sick is a rollercoaster of emotions! The film is loosely based on the real-life romance between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon – who’re also the writers of the film. It follows the courtship between the Pakistan-born comedian and Gordon (played by Zoe Kazan in the film), a grad student, but quickly unfurls into heartbreak when their distant cultures collide and Gordon falls sick. Nanjiani, however, refuses to leave her side and even befriends her parents – after a lot of struggle. The film’s an absolute delight to watch as it tries to improve your idea of traditional love through is beautiful story telling.
2. SOMEONE GREAT – NETFLIX
In its essence, Someone Great is a film about the ending of a relationship. But at the same time, it’s also so much more than that! It stars Gina Rodriguez, Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise as three best friends, who’ve had each other’s back since forever. When Rodriguez’s character, Jenny, gets her dream job, in a different city, her boyfriend Nate (played by Lakeith Stanfield) breaks up with her. He doesn’t want to move cities. She’s devastated as the two of them were together for 9 years. But her friends, who are also struggling in their own respective relationships, come to her rescue and help her pack in the good and bad of their love story.
